Beautiful Port St. Lucie, Florida
Families who value tranquil, laid-back, and generally peaceful small-town atmosphere will fall in love with Port St. Lucie. Slicing the grandiose and truly breath-taking St. Lucie River, this small yet bustling community is something that is considered a haven for today’s fairways loving golfers and truly one-of-a-kind New York Mets followers who, year in and year out, find the natural charm simply irresistible. St. Lucie Center For Cosmetic Dentistry is proud to reside in beautiful Port St Lucie!
Far from being a wasteland in the 50s, Port St. Lucie has made the painstakingly slow, yet equally worthwhile, transition to what it is now today with respect to the greater scheme of things in the southern corner of the Sunshine State of Florida. Year in and year out, the New York Mets dazzle the local community as well as from neighboring communities with their signature brand of major league baseball hoping to find the next Rusty Staub or Buddy Harrelson or Jerry Grote or even Mike Piazza among the summer camp training participants. Who knows, maybe the Mets’ next greatest catcher or batter will be anyone coming out of Port St. Lucie’s Tradition Field?
For serious golfers or those that are entertaining the idea of trying out playing in the fairways, Port St. Lucie’s PGA Village should be on the checklist. Boasting of three PGA golf courses where the public can try to tee without hitting the dirt or sending the golf ball down the water or the sand barrier, Port St. Lucie’s PGA Village is where every beginning golfer’s dreams are molded. The PGA Village has a golf museum, a learning center, and a library to complete the whole golfing experience of aficionados and curiosity-seekers alike.
The wonderful mix of modernism and nature is best exemplified by the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens. This is proof that with careful and meticulous urban planning and development, it is more than possible to allow the peaceful and harmonious coexistence between man and nature, between the need for development and the need to preserve as much of the natural environment as possible. St. Lucie River, its shores washing the fertile grounds of the Botanical Gardens, provides an excellent source of inspiration for artists who may require pristine and peaceful environments to spark creative imagination. The river is also perfect for those needing to relax and enjoy the smooth flow of the river current aboard a kayak or a canoe or even a larger boat.
Many of the city’s cultural and social events are held at the newly-built Port St. Lucie Civic Center where expositions, festivals, and holiday parades provide a welcome treat not only to the community’s residents but also to visitors and holiday merry-makers from elsewhere in the country. Some helpful links include the Port St Lucie Chamber of Commerce, where you can find information about local business events, and the City of Port St. Lucie which is the city’s official website.
The Transformation of the City
It was not always this picturesque in Port St. Lucie. In fact, it was an uninhabited piece of land way back in the 1950s. Only a few farms, businesses, and a fishing camp dotted the almost barren landscape. Part of this tract of land was purchased in 1958 by the General Development Corporation and by 1959, a bridge was built over the St. Lucie River to connect Port St. Lucie to the rest of Florida. Two years later in 1961, the small community began to flourish as 250 new homes were built prompting the GDC to request incorporation of the River Park settlement to become the City of Port St. Lucie. Two months later in April 1961, House Bill No. 953 finally formalized the cityhood of Port St. Lucie.
Core Communities began developing Port St. Lucie West in the 90s as a major residential area complete with businesses and entertainment parks well into the new millennium, bringing in more than 7,000 jobs that helped boost the economy of the city. By 2006, Core Communities was ready to build Tradition, dubbed as the area’s largest fully-entitled area for residential development, in addition to commercial development. By 2008, the research laboratory and learning facility Florida Center of Innovation was added into the Tradition landscape bringing in more than 30,000 jobs to the city. The research facility is composed of biotechnology and life science companies Vaccine & Gene Therapy Institute and the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies.
The historic transformation of our city is a testament to what meticulous organizational planning and development can do to bring out the best in even an uninhabited parcel of land. It is without a doubt that Port St. Lucie will continue to grow!
