Zoom! Whitening

ZOOM! Whitening

Keeping our teeth their whitest does not have to be as hard as you might think with ZOOM! Whitening.  With all the coffee, wine, smoking and other foods that have the ability to stain our teeth on a daily basis; sometimes even proper maintenance leaves teeth a little lackluster. Teeth whitening is an excellent way to restore the natural color of your teeth or even make them whiter than your natural color if you would like.

To accomplish the whitening of your teeth, the St. Lucie Center for Cosmetic Dentistry utilizes a product called ZOOM!. ZOOM! is a chairside whitening procedure that uses a safe whitening gel and a low intensity light to activate the gel. This combination allows us to provide you with teeth that are 6-10 shades whiter in about an hour!

The Zoom Whitening Treatment

Calculus and plaque prohibit the whitening gel from contributing to the overall whitening treatment. It is for this reason that a recent dental cleaning is necessary. To bring your teeth back to their natural white, Zoom works to exfoliate stains that are on the teeth. Zoom teeth whitening is a process that uses a 25% hydrogen peroxide gel, the gel is activated via a special UV light. Your eyes, lips and gums are completely covered and protected throughout the entire procedure. Whitening is considered one of the safest procedures available in dentistry. The procedure consists of three 15-minute sessions. After each session a fresh layer of whitening gel is applied to the teeth and the old gel is removed.

Predict Your Particular Teeth Whitening Results

We can show your results through tooth shade measurement comparisons before and after the teeth whitening process. Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict how many shades lighter your teeth will get beforehand. The stains that accumulate over the years from coffee, tea, juice, soda, fruits, berries, sauces, wine and more can all be removed through the whitening process. Your natural tooth color is the final shade, of which everyone’s is unique. The only way to find out is to try the in-office teeth whitening for yourself. In a recent study of 100 random patients, the average patient got results of 7.3 shades lighter. Some even went as many as 15 shades lighter, while a small percentage (<5%) lightened only 2 or 3 shades.

Teeth Whitening Results Will Look Natural with Zoom

There are patients that want their teeth to look their whitest white while others prefer their teeth to look naturally white, but not too white. Since the whitening process removes stains to bring out the natural tooth color, the results after in-office whitening will always look natural.

In-Office Results are Instantaneous

You will see results immediately after the zoom whitening procedure. We’ll be able to take your new tooth shade and measure how much lighter the teeth have gotten. Immediately following the tooth whitening process teeth are dehydrated due to the moisture they have lost. Over the next few days after the procedure there will be a rebound while your teeth regain moisture and with that a slight color adjustment. Therefore we recommend a true post shade measurement not be taken on the day of the procedure.

Dietary Restrictions Post Whitening

For the first 48 hours the pores in enamel are open, they can absorb stains faster than before. We provide our clients with a comprehensive list of what you can and cannot eat or drink during that time. As a rule anything that stains a white shirt, will stain your teeth. We realize that the diet is very restrictive. Please do your best, if you happen to eat or drink something you shouldn’t then brush your teeth or rinse with water right after. If you plan on drinking coffee please do so with a straw, this way only the back of your teeth are exposed to coffee.

Teeth Sensitivity Post Whitening

Teeth Sensitivity is an important concern during and after the teeth whitening process for patients as well as everyone in our office. While most of our clients complete the entire treatment, it’s important to understand that completing the three 15-minute sessions of zoom teeth whitening is not for everyone.

We monitor our clients closely and encourage them to let us know when they start feeling sensitivity. Our clients generally get good results even if they have completed just 2 sessions. Sensitivity is the body’s natural way of telling you that it is time to stop. If the whitening process is stopped before teeth become more sensitive, you will be much more comfortable for the rest of the day.

Pain Management Post Whitening

Although moderate to severe sensitivity is rare, unfortunately a small percentage (~11 %) of patients will experience some discomfort after the whitening process. Although we try to encourage everyone to stop when their teeth start to feel sensitive, it’s not always easy for the client to stop before sensitivity increases. After teeth whitening taking an anti-inflammatory such as Advil, Aleve, or Ibuprofen can relieve nerves inside teeth that have become inflamed during the treatment. Also, certain toothpastes such as Sensodyne can relieve sensitivity. At home, we recommend applying the toothpaste for sensitivity directly to your teeth for 5-10 minutes.
